2009 Work Session M1/M2

August 24, 2009. The previous week we had moved the box car at the east end, MS 504, off its trucks and about nine feet north onto the fresh ballast provided by MHC. There wasn’t time to move another car Friday afternoon, but the rails were positioned under the next car west, MS 501, before leaving. By mid-morning on the Monday of the second week, MS 501 had been jacked up high enough to clear the trucks and chains were being fastened to the south ends of the rails on which the car rested, as shown in this photo. The chains, attached to the 30-inch-gauge track, assured that when the winches pulled the car northward, the cars would slide on the greased rails, and that the rails would not slide northward on the blocking.
